Beginner Natural Hair Care Essentials

We will be looking at all the essential hair care products a beginner should have in order to have healthy hydrated hair. Natural hair is naturally dry so a key priority in the healthy hair growth of the hair is keeping it hydrated and moisturized. This is why water should be a staple in any natural’s routine. In addition to water, these are the some of the products we recommend


Shampoo


A clean scalp is a good foundation for healthy hair. A gentle moisturizing and clarifying shampoo clarifies hair by removing product build up without drying out the hair. You can cleanse your hair with shampoo every 1 - 4 weeks or so.

Conditioner



Conditioning restores any moisture that may have been lost during the shampooing process. For the other 3 weeks when you not cleansing with shampoo, co-washing (cleansing with conditioner) is a more sustainable way to wash your hair every week without drying out your hair from extensive use. Co washing is also ideal a quick wash after gym washes as well as a wash and go. Deep conditioning is an added boost of moisture in your hair. You can deep co your hair once a week to once a month depending on the state of your hair and its requirements.

Leave-in conditioner


Leave-in conditioner is the first step in the LOC (Leave-in/Liquid, Oils, Cream) method to optimise moisture in your hair. Apply Leave in on damp hair to moisturize your hair after washing but can also be used as an everyday moisturizer.

Oils


Oils, which are the 2nd step of the LOC method, seal in the moisture you’ve applied thus far. There are various types of oils with different functions. As a beginner, a pre-mixed set of oils is the best way to go to eliminate the guess work of which oils to buy while still figuring out your hair.

Cream
